"Someone once told me that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives. I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey and reminds us to cherish every moment, because it will never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we've lived."

Christmas Songs and Birthday Wishes
Happy Birthday to my friend Joe of the 70s-child blog!
If you have ever searched for O Holy Night on YouTube, you have likely come across this earsplitting version. Can you say contrast?

Fa-La-La-La-La, La-La-La-La... Day 13
Today we have Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas which stars the voices of Jerry Nelson, Melissa Rabbit, Frank Oz, Marilyn Sokol, Dave Goelz, Richard Hunt, Eren Ozker, and Jim Henson.
The program as originally aired no longer exists due to various edits made over the years. The video below is from a fan who laments these changes. For reference purposes, here's a list of the changes that have been made.
Plot: What do you do if you are poor otter with a great singing voice who wants to buy a gift for a loved one at Christmas? You enter a singing contest with hopes of winning the $50 prize!!

Feedjit Foolishness II
I was browsing over my Feedjit results and discovered a couple that I'd like to share with you. I'm always very interested in the search terms that bring people over to HOTCOL. I'll warn you that part of today's edition is possibly NSFW.
SPOILER SPACE
Warminster, Pennsylvania arrived from google.com on "Hairballs on the Carpet of Life" by searching for dessert hairball recipe.
This had me really puzzled and a bit queasy at first, but I found a Halloween recipe for a Hairball Salad With Saliva Dressing . I'm going to assume that this person had an actual dessert in mind and will not be chowing down on what the cat coughed up.
Sunnyvale, California arrived from google.com on "Hairballs on the Carpet of Life: Gagstastic emails part V" by searching for wife hairball vagina.
Wow! I mean, um... gee....
*stares at wall and blinks rapidly*
Um, did you actually have sex ed, or are you just making it up as you go along?
*stares at wall and blinks rapidly again*
So...um... do you insert them?
Do you tape them on like some bizarre version of a merkin?
Please tell me that your wife doesn't pretend to give birth to them?
Just how drunk or high does one have to be to get to a place where this sounds like a good thing to do?
You know, I've cleaned up my fair share of hairballs and I can honestly say that I've never once looked at one and thought...

Retro Music: Cruisin' in the Olds...
My friend Joe of the blog 70s-Child, did a post about 8-Track tapes last Friday. While reading the comments, I remembered the free 8-Track tape that came with the Oldsmobile my parents bought. This is the only song I remembered from that tape, and it's been playing in my head since last Friday. Mr. Hairball is getting very tired of me singing this song. *grins*
For those of you on dial-up who can't do YouTube, here's the lyrics.
Hues Corporation - Rock the Boat
Would you believe that someone is selling what appears to be the same tape on Ebay?

Flashback Friday- Potluck Edition
Just a heads up that my posting is going to continue to be sporadic for the rest of the summer. I had planned to do more posts this week, but I hurt my arm earlier this week and yesterday was the first day I felt like trying to type.
I've also got The Hairball World Tour coming up in a couple of weeks. Okay, "World Tour" is not quite right, lets say The Hairball Multi-State Road Trip Extravaganza. According to Mapquest, it looks like it will be about 1800 miles (2,896.82 kilometers) round trip. Reserve your tickets now! *grins*
Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell- Ain't no Mountain High Enough
The 5th Dimension - Wedding Bell Blues
Gladys Knight & The Pips- Midnight Train To Georgia
Golden Earring - Radar Love
Loverboy- Working For The Weekend
Rick Springfield- Jessie's Girl
Have a good weekend everyone!

What happened to the music players?
First the bad news:
To those of you who were enjoying the music players I had embedded in my blog, I'd like to apologize for removing them. I've been unsuccessfully trying to keep up with deleting all of the 30 second samplers of music from the songs that were not authorized to play the full version in the embedded players. I hate listening to a 30 second sample of a song and I'm betting that you don't like it any better than I do.
Now for the good news:
You can still listen to the players, but you will need to follow the links to my page over at Imeem.com. You will need an Imeem account, but it doesn't cost you anything to become a member. When you get over there, take a minute to familiarize yourself with the music players. You'll see that you have a lot more control over your listening experience than you did when you were listening here on my blog.
Here's the link to my Imeem page.
Please let me know if you've having trouble over there and I will try to help you.

Flashback Friday!
For the month of April, Flashback Friday will feature selected music from the '80s.
80's edition- Female vocalists (and their hair)
Belinda looks so good in this video. I had this hairstyle myself off and on for several years during the blonde and red years. For you trivia buffs, the man in the video is her husband, and they have been married since 1986.
I did have some spiky hair during part of the 80's but, I never had a rat tail. *grins*
I've always liked Joan Jett's tough girl persona and hair!
I've always thought that Pat Benatar's hair was so pretty in this video.
I like Cyndi's hair in this video because she looks like she's having a blast and the wild hair just fits her.
I think it's safe to say that Cyndi Lauper dances in her kitchen and yells Whoot!
Have a good weekend!

Don't judge a book...
I love how the judges and the audience just assumed that since Ms. Boyle is not a 20 year old with movie star looks that she couldn't sing! *rolls eyes* I hope Ms. Boyle wins and I will look for news online about how she is doing on the show.
Now some of you are freaking out right now as you I am most definitely not a fan of reality TV. Yep, aside from the PBS-y type reality shows where people go back in time I usually don't like the genre. This is one of those "Can we please let the underdogs have a day in the sun?" situations. So being a misfit/underdog type myself, I'm rooting for her.
Back when I used to watch CSI: Original Recipe, I turned over too soon one night and caught the last few minutes of Survivor. Someone was whining about how another contestant had *gasp* lied as part of their strategy. *rolls eyes* Dude, I don't even watch the show but, I understand the concept of using strategy to win a game.
I've joked for years that some moron will decide to make a reality show version of Russian Roulette and other morons will leap at the chance to go on the Tee-Vee and confirm their stupidity to the world. On the other hand, maybe all the people from Dancing with the Has-beens in Rehab, Swapping Wives and Bratty Kids Racing Around the World, Losing Weight while Looking for Love on an Island Eating Bugs with Donald Trump will go on there and we can get some good shows back on.
By the way, I'm still mad at ABC for canceling Homefront so don't think I can't hold a grudge!

Flashback Friday!
For the month of April, Flashback Friday will feature selected music from the '80s.
80's Edition- Dance Songs
* In the distance, an early 80's era Chevy Camaro Z28 can be seen coming down the road. The t-tops are off and hands can periodically be seen thrusting up towards the sky. You can feel the bass of the music as the car approaches. Inside the car are two women with really big hair and Risky Business style sunglasses. The driver fishtails to a stop and asks if you'd like a ride to the next town. You accept and hop in the back while the passenger smiles at you and asks if you'd like to pick out some songs for the ride. The driver turns to you and tells you that her name is Hairball. Then she smiles mischievously and yells out Whoot! as she punches the accelerator.*
*Hairball stops in front of a convenience store and thanks you for selecting some fun 80's dance songs and says she hopes you have a nice weekend. She drives away off into the sunset with her friend.*
Happy Easter to all of my readers that celebrate it!

If you'll look to your right....
Just a quick note of something new on my blog. If you will look to your right you will see two music players from Imeem with music that I have selected from their website. The first one has various songs from the 30's, 40's and 50's while the second one has songs from the 60's,70's and 80's. I've been working on the second one longer so it has more songs on it than the first one. Go hit the play button if you want to listen to some music. If silence is more your thing or you have your own tunes playing, no biggie!
The first one is pretty heavy on Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby, and the Andrews Sisters. The second one is well, a lot like me in that it's a truly insane compilation. I've got Petula Clark, Chubby Checker, Whitesnake, and ZZ Top in there along with many other artists. LOL
I tried to weed out all the songs that only show up as 30 second samplers but, I'm sure I missed a few. If you find one I missed, please leave me a comment so I can try to fix it.
Thanks!

Flashback Friday!
For the month of April, Flashback Friday will feature selected music from the '80s.
80's Edition- Love Songs
I had David Coverdale's hairdo at one point in the 80's. *grins*
I can remember listening to the radio back then and hoping that the guy I had a terrible crush on would dedicate this song to me. *blushes*
RIP Dan, you are missed.
This song makes me think of Mr. Hairball as we were good friends before we fell in love with each other.
I've always loved this song and Steve Perry's voice.
Have a good weekend everyone!

Stop putting old songs I like on commercials!!
I saw a Tums commercial this past weekend featuring this song.
I like this song and it really bugs me to now think of antacids whenever I hear it. Thanks a lot GlaxoSmithKline!
* Goes off to find some antacid not made by these clowns.*

80's Music
I've got music from the 80's in my head today..
I had a big crush on Thomas Dolby.
This song always reminds me of our last big move. We told people we were moving and everybody was so happy and congratulating us on moving closer to a big city. We told them that actually we would be living even farther away from a big city than where we were living at that time. We got a lot of very confused looks from those who thought we were just plain crazy. To each his own. *grins*
