"Someone once told me that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives. I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey and reminds us to cherish every moment, because it will never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we've lived."

Sandra Lee, the early years

Last night, I chose a cake recipe from my 1950 Betty Crocker Picture Cook Book to make for this week. There wasn't a picture of it on the page with the recipe, so I flipped through the rest of the book to see if perhaps there was one in another section. In doing so, I came across this drawing. (Please click to enlarge if necessary so you can read the text.)

I never would have guessed that Sandra Lee got her start back in 1950 when she worked in the Betty Crocker "Kamera Kitchen"!

Oh, my. That is a wonderful picture! And I love the cutesy misspelling (I have a feeling that I spelled misspelling wrong though, which is mildly comical and ironic)...

Aw, come on... what has poor SLee ever done to you? I mean, she's like the MacGuyver of cooking. She could take a roll of Lifesavers, a bullion cube and some frilly toothpicks and come up with a 4-course meal, complete with roasted lambshanks in a creme anglaise. (I don't even know what that means, but I bet there's a balsamic reduction involved somewhere.)

P.S. I totally have this cookbook, too! All the old pictures are so cool.

Lidian, yes it is rather ironic!

Heather Cherry,
I love this cookbook but I do find some of the pictures very amusing!
